Innovation and cutting-edge thinking are hallmarks of Isagenix’s science-based approach to nutrition and wellness. As an example, Isagenix has harnessed advances in food technology and nutrient delivery to bring you PuraPlant 21™, a multivitamin and multimineral supplement providing 21 vitamins (and their accompanying diversity of vitamers and bioactives) and minerals, all sourced from organic whole foods, including sweet potatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms. These whole-food-sourced nutrients mimic the way nutrients are naturally delivered through food for optimal absorption while being gentle on the stomach, and scientists have demonstrated their efficacy in cellular and animal models.
However, PuraPlant 21 is more than just a multivitamin and multimineral supplement. This comprehensive daily supplement also provides two key accessory nutrients to support wellness: the carotenoid lutein for eye and vision health and Ahiflower®—a novel, plant-based source of omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids that, unlike marine sources of fatty acids, offers a completely neutral taste and smell.
What is Ahiflower?
Ahiflower is a non-GMO oil derived from Buglossoides arvensis seeds, a borage family plant (1). The plant is regeneratively grown only in the United Kingdom and is 100% traceable.
With Ahiflower, PuraPlant 21 provides the body with omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids backed by peer-reviewed published studies (2, 5-7), offering health benefits not found in typical multivitamins.
The Unique Nutritional Features and Benefits of Ahiflower
Beyond providing a diverse profile of health-associated omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids, Ahiflower is rich in the specific omega-3 fatty acid stearidonic acid (SDA). This fatty acid is metabolized from the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). While ALA is abundant in healthy foods such as flax seed, walnuts, and canola oil, Ahiflower is a uniquely rich source of both ALA and SDA. More importantly, the SDA in Ahiflower is more efficiently converted into the longer-chain omega-3 fatty acid EPA (and, to a much lesser extent, DHA) than ALA (2,3). Collectively, each of these omega-3 fatty acids offers benefits for immune, brain, cardiovascular, and skin health.
Ahiflower is also an excellent source of the beneficial omega-6 fatty acid known as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) (4). This fatty acid has long been shown to offer immune and other health benefits. Moreover, GLA is not abundantly available in Western diets.
Isagenix Science at the Forefront
The inclusion of Ahiflower into PuraPlant 21 demonstrates how Isagenix formulates scientifically based and documented products to supplement your overall diet. To further increase your intake of healthy fatty acids, consider adding IsaOmega to your regimen.
