Menopause is a natural physiological transition defined as the end of a woman’s reproductive and childbearing ability. In the United States, the median age of menopause is approximately 51 years (1) and is associated with estrogen deficiency and significant fluctuations in various hormone synthesis and/or secretion. As a consequence of these widespread physiological and biochemical changes, menopause is associated with a variety of symptoms, including hot flashes, poor sleep quality, vaginal dryness, fatigue, and mood disturbances.
To nutritionally support women transitioning through menopause, Isagenix has formulated a novel, multi-functional dietary supplement combining several clinically proven, patented ingredients. This supplement, Harmonia, was created to target the constellation of PMS-related symptoms.
Meet the Ingredients of Harmonia
EstroG-100®
EstroG-100 is a standardized extract of three herbs used for centuries in Traditional Chinese and Korean medicine: Cynanchum wilfordii, Phlomis umbrosa, and Angelica gigas. Due to the biological properties of these herbs, EstroG-100 has been investigated as a nutritional supplement mitigating menopausal symptoms. Several clinical studies documented the benefits of EstroG-100 against menopausal symptoms and improvement in quality of life (2-5). As importantly, neither adverse effects nor alternations in estrogen or other hormones were noted in any of the studies. Interestingly, EstroG-100 has also been shown to improve measures of bone health, another major concern for women during menopause (5).
SaffSerene™
SaffSerene is a standardized extract from saffron (Crocus sativus L.), the world’s most expensive spice. The standardized key bioactives in saffron are safranal, crocin, and picrocrocin. Through its effects on many biological pathways, saffron has been shown to support a healthy mood balance, mental outlook, and stress response – all of which are beneficial for menopausal symptoms (6-8).
Probiotics
Harmonia also features two scientifically studied probiotic strains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1® and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14®. These probiotics support vaginal health through several properties, including: increasing healthy bacteria in the vaginal tract, reducing the growth of potentially harmful bacteria, and maintaining an optimal pH (9-11). Moreover, these two probiotics have been studied in over 100 scientific publications.
In summary, Harmonia features a unique and potent combination of four clinically-supported patented ingredients formulated to help support women through this natural life transition.
